This tournament is for scholastic players in grades K-12 with and without prior tournament experience.  We recommend that players in their first tournament play choose the Unrated option, where they will be grouped by age and play 3 or 4 games.

Players who've previously done well in an Unrated section or have previous rated tournament experience should choose the Rated option, where they'll be placed in a group of 4 players according to their age and rating.  Each participant then plays one game against each of the other three players in their group. At the end of the third game, the winner of each group receives a trophy.

This event should typically finish in 1-2 hours, but can potentially take as long as 3 hours for the most advanced players (although that is rare).

Everyone will use a clock!  We'll go over how to use the clocks on-site.  Unrated section players will play game in 10 minutes with a 5 second delay, and Rated games are 25 minutes with a 5 second delay for each player.

Games are played in the auditorium, directly to the right of the main entrance.

Players can play in the morning at 10am, the afternoon at 1pm, or both!

* All sections are non-elimination, and all players participate in all rounds
* If you're playing in the Rated sections and have a US Chess ID# and membership, please include it.  If you don't have one, we will purchase it for you ($24 value!).  If you're not sure what your ID# is you can look it up here
* Please arrive 15 minutes before games start.  Players who arrive after that may not be placed in quads.
*Prices increase by $10 at noon the Tuesday before the tournament.

Per the rules of the JCC, ALL food brought into the building must be Kosher.

The Air & Space Museum is a national treasure.
      Format: Hardcover
This is one of those books that makes you wish you were there. Lots of pictures and tidbits of information. A good quality book physically as well. We get their magazine and this is one of many books we have both from and about the museum. Highly Recommended.

Great photo essay, history of aviation and space
i'm an engineer- worked rocket motors, and various satellite programs. this book was recommended by associate after visiting the museum at Langley. The pics are super, with short descriptions, and moderate on the tech. It's an amazing pulse of this wild history, and mostly is from America's lineage. St. Louis, Mercury, Atlas, and up to current Shuttle. There's also the SST, and unique turn of the century early birds. A fine read to be shared with a youngster (my son 10, digs it), or for the history or engineering buff. amazon has it cheaper than at the museum.

      Essential reading for PowerPoint presenters.
      Format: Paperback, Format: Paperback
Cliff shows details how to improve our PowerPoint presentations. He gives concrete and simple steps to transform a message into a targeted presentation. All of us have suffered from presenters who went over their allotted time because they had vital information to give us, yet we still didn't know their main point. Many have seen slide decks burdened with dozens of bullet points. Did the volume of points yield more clarity or did they dull our ability to focus on the message? Probably not. Read Cliff's book. Follow his method and you'll be a more effective presenter.

      Useful with some scientific corroboration
      Format: Paperback
Worth it as a primer to slide content and how it inter-relates to the delivery when giving a presentation. Very slightly laboured, like most TV documentaries nowadays - you feel they could move a bit faster (...yeah we got it the first time).

Simple and streamlined to meet anyone's needs
      Format: Paperback
This book rocks! It provide a simple and structured way to define, develop and deliver a "Kick Ass" presentation that you can project or just use from the podium. It bring the audio and visual together to compliment a story to be shared. It has taken the hassel factor out of designing a presentation for anyone on any subject. Thank you!
