In Traders of Carthage, players are merchants who are attempting to ship four different types of goods from Alexandria to Carthage. Players affect how quickly or slowly the ships move and can trigger pirate raids that may cost their opponents their goods. (Traders of Osaka moves the gameplay to a new continent and era, with players now trying to deliver cargo from Osaka to Edo, but otherwise gameplay remains the same.)

The game has a small board that shows the route the ships will follow, marking safe ports and dangerous waters. The board also has two spaces for the draw pile and discard pile and shows where the Market and Farm cards are laid out. The game also contains a deck of cards that have multiple uses, 48 achievement tokens for when goods are sold, four ship pieces to mark how far the ships have sailed, four trader pieces to indicate a player's scoring pile, four reservation pieces for players to mark cards they wish to purchase or take on a later round and a rulebook.

The game is a set collection game at its core. Players are attempting to collect sets of goods that will allow them to collect cards that will be worth points at the end of the game.

During the game, the cards can be used to represent goods when laid out in front of players, to represent gold to purchase goods when played from their hands or urns which players will use to protect goods from pirates. Deciding how to use the cards and when is the basis of playing the game.

On a player's turn, they can do one of three things: Buy Goods, Get Coins or Reserve a Card.

Buying goods has the player buying cards from the Market. There will be a number of cards laid out, face up, in the Market. Each card has a gold value in the corners and indicates how much a card is worth (either 2, 3 or 5). When a player buys goods, they must buy all the cards in the Market, using cards in hand to pay. If a player cannot afford the whole Market, they cannot do this action. Any cards purchased this way are laid out, face up, in front of the player. These goods are now aboard the ship of the matching color. Then the player moves each matching ship either 1 or 2 spaces towards Carthage (1 space if 1 card of that color was purchased, 2 spaces if 2 or more cards were purchased). If a ship moves onto Carthage, a payout occurs and pirates attack (this will be explained in detail later). If the Market is bought out or if the current player can't take or buy market cards (due to reservation pieces), the cards in the Farm (3 face up cards) are moved to the market. 2 cards are drawn from the draw pile and are added to the Market. Then 3 new cards are drawn for the Farm and are placed face up.

Getting coins has the player taking a single card from the Market and placing it in his hand. That card is now money, its value indicated by the gold value in the corners. This is the only way players can increase the amount of money they have.

Reserving a card has the player placing their Reservation piece on a card in the Market or in the Farm. This card is now unavailable to all other players. The Reservation piece is now committed to that card and can't be taken back until the owning player acquires the reserved card either as money or as a good. The owning player may take the card on his next turn or leave it, assuming there is another legal play he can do.

After taking his turn, the next player takes his action, and so on until the game ends.

If a payout occurs, each player that has goods on that ship takes part. First the players count how many of that colored good they have. Then they look at the value of the goods and determine which has the highest value. They take that value and multiply it by the number of cards in the set, rounding up to the nearest 5 or 10. For example, if a player has 3 yellow goods and the highest value is 3, they would multiply 3 by 3 to get 9, then round up to 10. The player then takes that value and divides by 5. The result indicates how many cards of that set the player keeps. Keeping with the example, the player would divide 10 by 5 to get a result of 2. This means the player keeps 2 out of the 3 cards from the set. Players keep the lowest valued card first and work their way up until they have the reached their limit. These cards are placed face down near the players with their trader piece on the pile, indicating this is their scoring pile. At the end of the game each card in the scoring pile is worth 1 point. This procedure is completed for each ship that reached Carthage. Then those ships are moved back to Alexandria, ready for another voyage. Each player that had a payout then takes 1 achievement token for each color they scored (not each card they scored).

When during a payout, any player that scores and has matching achievement tokens to the scored goods, will add the amount of tokens they have to the highest value card in the set. They then figure out how many cards they keep. For example, if a player has 3 blue cards with the highest value being 5. The player also has two blue tokens. The player would add 2 (for his tokens) to 5 for a value of 7. Then he would multiply 7 by 3, getting 21 and round up to 25. After dividing 25 by 5, the player can keep 5 cards. If a player gets to keep more cards than in the set, as in this example, they keep the entire set and draw cards from the top of the draw pile to make up the difference. These drawn cards are kept face down and are added to the score pile.

After the payout, any ships that are in the two Pirate spaces are attacked. Affected players may now discards cards from their hand to protect their goods on those ships. Each card has either 2, 1 or no urns on them. When you discard a card with 2 urns, two goods of that color are protected from the pirates. For example, if a player has 2 blue goods and discards a blue card with 2 urns, then he may choose which two cards are protected. After all players have finished discarding cards (which is voluntary; players are not required to protect their goods), the attacked ships are moved back to the nearest safe port and may move again towards Carthage.

The game ends once a player has 8 or more Achievement tokens. The winner is the player with the highest score (number of cards in their score pile). If there is a tie, the tiebreaker is the number of Achievement tokens the tied players have. If there is still a tie, then the game ends in a tie.

Quiet, that's about the only good quality
UPDATE: Moving to 5 stars! Quickly after my 2 star review (below) the seller reached out and askked to exchange the defective product for an upgraded model at no cost to me. They were attentive and quick in responding, and I received a replacement version that also included the mopping functionality (The first didn't have this), and it works as expected. Customer service was too notch. I wouldn't hesitate to buy again. This is a lot quieter than my original Roomba, that is still running strong...but I wanted a 2nd robot vac so I could run one on the main floor and 2nd floor of my home. This one doesn't fit the bill, and I will be returning. I ran it while I was at home, and it stopped 4 times, telling me I needed to clean the brush. There was absolutely nothing bound on the brush any of the times. But had I not been home, it wouldn't have finished cleaning because it stops completely when it thinks there is hair. Then, another time, it just stopped running. It didn't say anything, so I don't know why it stopped. I assume it thought it was done, but the whole level of my home wasn't finished. This was all in just the one time I attempted to run it for 1 cycle. When I pushed the start button again, it said something to the effect of starting cleaning, so that's what makes me assume the last cycle was over. It does clean well, and is very quiet; however, it just stops for no reason far too often. I want it to run while I'm at the office, which obviously won't work if I have to be here babysitting it for the imaginary dirt on the brush. This will unfortunately be getting returned. I think I'll stick to the Roomba brand, as I have far less issues with my 10+ year old vac than this new one with all the nice features.

Decent robot vacuum, but struggles with dog hair
The setup was straightforward and the self-empty station is a nice feature. It navigates the house fairly well and does a decent job picking up everyday dust and debris on hard floors. Where it struggles is with dog hair. With a shedding dog in the house, I noticed it tends to leave behind quite a bit of hair, especially along edges and in areas where it tends to accumulate. It works better for lighter debris but doesn’t seem powerful enough to keep up with heavier pet hair. Pros: Easy setup and app integration Self-empty station is convenient Navigates rooms fairly well Cons: Struggles with dog hair Not as strong as expected for pet households Bottom Line: This vacuum works fine for general cleaning and light debris, but if you have a dog that sheds a lot, it may not keep up as well as expected. For pet owners specifically, it might not be the best fit.

Very Disappointed with this Vacuum
After having a Shark Robot Vacuum for many years, my husband decided to upgrade to newer technology (easier boundary settings, better mapping etc) On a good note, when this thing works - it works great. One of my biggest complaints with the Shark was I had to put physical boundary strips at the top of the stairs etc. This Eufy is very easy to set "no go zones" on the app, works famously in that aspect. This vac also seems to "work" in a more organized manner. I can see on the app exactly what was cleaned after every scheduled cleaning etc. The Shark would just buzz around the house all willy nilly, but this Eufy seems to be very organized in the cleaning, not missing anywhere. Now for the most aggravating part. I have my Eufy scheduled to clean every night @ 1:00 am, while we are sleeping. Most nights @ 1:15 am I get a notification on my phone "Roller Brush Stuck". Well obviously I don't see the notification until morning. I go "find" Eufy (which is easy with the app - shows you right where she is - another nice thing compared to the Shark) Pull the Roller Brush, which mind you, nothing is wrong with, it is not stuck, there is nothing wrapped around it etc. Put it back in & restart. This has done this since day one, brand new out of the box. After doing some scouring of the Internet, I see that this is a big complaint with many other owners of this model. From what I gather, Eufy is aware of this and it is a known problem. I called Eufy Customer Care after about using this for one week. The phone call lasted over 45 minutes (part of my life that I will never get back!) Now mind you, the representative was very helpful & thorough. We walked through a couple procedures, (The Rep had me pull the roller brush etc & report to her what I was "seeing") Which again, I had performed everything the Rep had me do religiously for the past week, but No, she like wouldn't take my word for it, I had to do all this again while on the phone with her - - almost like she didn't believe me at first. Next, the Rep offered to send me a "newer design roller brush" Ok, cool, if it solves the problem let's do it - I just wanted to get off the phone & on with my day. Oh wait, there are no new design roller brushes in stock. Now I'm told to send just the robot back (not the dock) I told the Rep to send me a call tag, as I wasn't going to pay shipping on a "brand new used one week" item. Oh wait, now she has located the replacement roller brushes. So here we are back to the original solution, she will send me a replacement roller brush. Took my name, my address, phone number, name of first & last born children etc. Just a long drawn out process to send me the "fix" for their known manufacture problem. So to make my long story even longer, here I sit a month and a 1/2 later without ever receiving the replacement brush and an unreliable product who doesn't complete her "mission" most nights. I wish this vacuum was still within the 30 day Amazon return period, because I would have sent it back after experiencing this defect. However my husband had bought this for me for Christmas (before the date that Amazon offers their extended holiday returns window) I didn't even unbox this vacuum before the 30 days were up. The App with the mapping & the expansive scheduling options is great compared to the Shark, but I bought the Eufy to vacuum, which she fails @ nightly.

Great upgrade from my old robot
Size: Freo S, Size: Freo S
I had a different robot vacuum for a little over four years, and it finally started giving out, so I decided to try this one. It’s definitely an upgrade. The first thing I noticed is that it runs much quieter than my old one, which I really appreciate. The self-emptying feature is super convenient as I don’t have to dump the container every single day like I used to. It mapped my home surprisingly fast. It moved through each room for a minute or two and somehow had the whole layout figured out almost immediately. I did adjust the room boundaries a bit, but nothing complicated. Cleaning performance has been solid. I usually run it on the highest suction because I have a cat and a couple of carpeted rooms, and it handles the hair pretty well. For hardwood, there are lower modes too. It also has a mopping feature, but I don’t use it—I prefer my regular steam mop for that. Setup was easy, and connecting it to the app took just a moment. And it charges quickly too.

Great value, Easy Set-up
Size: Freo S, Size: Freo S
I just got this vacuum and honestly, I’m pretty happy with it for the price. Here’s how it’s been going so far. Price: This thing is a steal. Works just as well as some of the more expensive ones I’ve had. Set up: It took maybe 5 minutes to get it going, and I didn’t even need to look at the manual. Super easy to set up and start mapping. Carpet: Does a great job picking up dog hair and dust on my low-pile carpet. Doesn’t miss a spot. Thresholds: It goes over low doorways and small lips—no getting stuck. Navigation: It uses structured light for obstacle avoidance, which is typically found in much higher-end models, and it really exceeded my expectations. The cleaning path is smooth, and it avoids furniture without bumping into anything. It just works. Base station: Very hands-off. It docks and charges itself. Plus, I love how sleek and simple it looks.
