Dive deep into the world of 'Set to Sea,' a captivating graphic novel that navigates the life of a big lug and aspiring poet. This enthralling story captures the essence of maritime adventures as our protagonist immerses himself in life at sea—running tabs at local bars by day and writing poetic paeans to the seafaring spirit by night. Description:
The central character of Set to Sea is a big lug and an aspiring poet who runs up tabs at the local bars by day and haunts the docks by night, writing paeans to the seafaring life. When he gets shanghaied aboard a clipper bound for Hong Kong, he finds the sailor's life a bit rougher than his romantic nautical fantasies, but he learns to live”and love”a Conradian life on the sea, all the while writing poetry about pirates, bad food, unceremonial funerals, foreign ports, and unexpected epiphanies. By the end of his life, he's found satisfaction in living a life of adventure and finding a receptive and appreciative readership. What more could one ask for? Set to Sea is part rollicking adventure, part maritime ballad told in visual rhyme. Every page is a single panel, every panel is a stunning illustration, every illustration a part of a larger whole that tells a story in the deft language of cartooning.

I'm sure it is a wonderful book
Format: Board book
I bought this book for my nephew. I'm sure it is an absolutely lovely book with a great message, but I have not had the pleasure of reading it myself yet. And since my sister in law is an ingrate and never writes thank you notes or calls to say, "hey, thanks for sending my kid a gift!", I really have no idea. But I'm sure you'll enjoy it!

Excellent for the preschooler
Simple, straight-forward and a great follow along book for the preschool, pre-reader. We enjoyed the simple story and the more complex drawings but also the layout makes it easy for our little guy to identify particular words as we read.
