This workshop has been carefully designed to support educators in bringing Country into their classrooms in an authentic and meaningful way. It aims to build confidence and cultural capability, enabling teachers to deliver learning experiences that are inclusive, engaging, and deeply connected to Aboriginal perspectives and the Country they teach on.
This session focuses on translating learning into practical, curriculum-aligned approaches that support student engagement, wellbeing, and cultural understanding. By the end of the session teachers will have a deeper understanding of Aboriginal perspectives, greater confidence to embed them in their teaching, and practical strategies to support student identity, wellbeing, and connection through connection to Country.
Participants will:
- Develop a deeper understanding Country and the enduring connection Aboriginal people have with it.
- Learn about the traditional uses of Country, the impacts of colonisation, and the strength and resilience involved in maintaining this ancient relationship.
- Be immersed in the landscape as our educators guide you through Country, sharing Aboriginal knowledge and experiences to help you meaningfully engage with the Country you work on.
- Discover how Country can support students' sense of identity, wellbeing, and holistic development.
- Explore how learning from Country can also enhance classroom management and foster deeper student connections.
- Develop practical strategies to meaningfully embed Country into daily teaching.
This session is hosted on Country and involves some walking and sitting on the ground. We recommend participants bring water and sun protection.
Participants will receive a certificate of completion for their records.
