Spiral Publishing authors Kari Kilgore and Jason A. Adams have put together an exclusive bundle of six fiction stories set in July and summertime, and available this July at a special price! Check out the stories below, and be sure to grab your bundle of Spiral Publishing's July Reads before it disappears at the end of the month!

We're officially entering the second half of 2024, and the heat is on in the Northern Hemisphere! Our seventh monthly short story bundle full of summertime reads at a special discounted price spans a bunch of genres, even more than usual. So you'll be all set to relax and read with a cool drink by your side, or snuggled up with a warm one in the Southern Hemisphere.

Either way, we hope you'll enjoy the escapes!

Jason starts the bundle off with When the Spying’s Done, exploring what professional sneaky people do between jobs, and what interest they might have in certain coworkers. And it shows us that even among secret agents, hope springs eternal.

Kari's tale The Earworms brings you into a small, close-knit town under an unusual sort of attack. One that takes the idea of an inescapable "song of the summer" to the next level, and multiplies the madness from there.

With Writing the Past, Jason follows a ranch hand reluctantly on the run, and what happens after he wakes up on a different side of history near a Nevada town with a very interesting hidden feature.

In The Perfect Shade of Haint Blue, Kari introduces Mark Hersch, a hero from her Voices Through Time series, during one of those endless summers of the teen years. An idyllic spell of getting to know himself and his family turns a lot more interesting than he or his beloved Papaw bargain for.

Jumping far into the future and far across the galaxy with A Real Hero, but with life struggles not that different from Earth-bound teenagers, Jason takes us to the planet Xantares IV. A boy on the cusp of becoming a man must make decisions about what path to take, whether that means following one of his parents or forging his own way.

And finally, in a much darker turn on the theme of growing up and finding your way to adulthood, Kari's story In the Company of Women travels to a small town led by a decidedly sinister group of women. Coming of age might mean gaining a great deal of power, but at what cost?

Happy summer, happy reading, and don't forget to check back next month for your brand-new batch of Spiral Publishing's Monthly Reads!

When the Spying's Done by Jason A. Adams

Nothing Beats a Company Romance

Spies live exciting lives when in the field.

Like all soldiers, their downtime comes with fewer thrills.

Lena Bauer certainly thinks so.

Until she meets Major Adam Walton.

When the spying ends, will something new begin?

An excerpt from When the Spying's Done:

Major Walton had that estimable quality in their profession, Hollywood spy movies notwithstanding. He was a man who you wouldn’t remember five minutes after seeing him.

Unless he smiled at you. Smiled and laughed. Then his face lit up like sun glare off a canopy and made a girl’s knees quiver.

A pilot who’d cut his teeth in a Piper Cub from the age of thirteen, he’d gone on to fly three tours in Vietnam in F-4s before becoming one of the first A-10 instructor pilots. Somewhere in his quarters, he had a blue jacket full of brass and silver gewgaws, including the Distinguished Flying Cross with several clusters.

All before being tasked with testing what she and her fellow Company men and women brought back from behind the Iron Curtain.

The Earworms by Kari Kilgore

Everything you need for your robot maintenance
Color: Saros 10r-20/Qrevo Curvx Accessories, Color: Saros 10r-20/Qrevo Curvx Accessories
Automatic floor robots are a great convenience and, at this point, I can't picture our house without one. Being able to turn them on at night and wake up to vacuum and mopped floors is pretty amazing. The problem is that you eventually have to do maintenance on them to keep them running. I guess it's not that much to ask of you since they do go for a long time with only water refills and waste water dumps. It's hard to find kits that are comprehensive enough to cover all the needs, so when I saw this one, I had to pick it up. The kit contains multiples of every consumable on the Roborock (ours is named Mrs. Nesbit). It also comes with a screwdriver and a blade/brush to clean dirt and hair. The small spinning brush is easy to replace, and the only one you need the screwdriver for. The mopping pad functional on the Roborock is one of my favorite features, so having multiple replacements makes this kit very attractive. They simple peel off of the Velcro and lay back the same. The split rollers take a minute to figure out, but you don't need to loosen the screws - they pull right off the U shaped plastic pieces they are attached to, but keep track of which goes with which color because each plastic piece only goes back on its correct side. The easiest to replace is the filter on the dust bin in the robot since it just pops out and the new one fits in. The lasts step is to replace the dust bag in the base itself, which is very simple. Overall, the quality and fit of all the pieces included in this kit were great. I didn't run across anything that was off or I had to force on. While my pads and brushes weren't as bad as my other vacuum (named The Beast), the vacuum had been warning me that their life was coming to an end and I needed to swap them out. Now I have multiple replacements for the future and my Roborock is good to go for many months. I will be picking this kit up again when I run out and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it at this price point.

Good Budget Replacement Set, but Mop Pads Differ from Original
Color: Saros 10r-20/Qrevo Curvx Accessories
These replacement accessories fit my Roborock Qrevo S5 without any issues. I run my robot daily because I have a dog, so I go through mop pads pretty quickly and have already used this set for a couple of cleaning runs around the house on vinyl floors. The bags seal properly, and I did not notice any loss of suction or performance with the filters compared to the original parts. The biggest difference was the mop pads themselves. They feel noticeably different from the OEM Roborock ones and seem a bit lower in quality. Even so, they still got the job done for normal daily cleaning and handled pet hair and dirt well. Since the original pads also wear out for me after multiple washes, this set still feels like a practical and more affordable alternative overall.

Not as good as the oem accessories
Color: Saros 10r-20/Qrevo Curvx Accessories, Color: Saros 10r-20/Qrevo Curvx Accessories
I have a roborock saros 10r and all of these accessories seem to be compatible and work with my robovac however the quality of them isn’t nearly the same level. The mop pads material are much coarser and less fine than the original. The side brushed bristles weren’t nearly as tightly bound together. The roller brush isn’t as well made. The cleaning performance I think is similar but i suspect they will not last as long as the oem accessories which are just much better made. Over it’s a mix on value.

All the parts needed to maintain your Roborock robot, with a great fit and finish.
Color: Saros 10r-20/Qrevo Curvx Accessories, Color: Saros 10r-20/Qrevo Curvx Accessories
This is a great consumable parts replacement package for many Roborock robots. I utilized it for my Saros 10R. The parts all fit great and honestly look and feel just like the OEM parts that came with the robot. Over time, I have purchased new consumable parts for my Saros 10R from various sources, but I think that I will be using this kit in the future. The kit comes with everything one needs to maintain Roborock robots, as outlined in its description. The main brushes are of good quality and fit well. I have found that the main brushes and the filter fit are the hardest things for third-party vendors to duplicate, and these do that well. What I like most is the mop heads. They are of very good quality and may be better than the OEM mop heads. Everything in this kit fits well and mimics the manufacturer's parts closely in both quality and fit. Compared to the cost of Roborock OEM parts, this is a home run.

Nice Value Replacement Kit for the Qrevo CurvX, Brushes Slightly Less Dense Than OEM
Color: Saros 10r-20/Qrevo Curvx Accessories, Color: Saros 10r-20/Qrevo Curvx Accessories
All of the included items fit my Roborock Qrevo CurvX nicely, and the material quality is fairly close to the OEM parts. I also liked the quantity of each item included, since it should be quite a while before I need to buy another replacement kit. The only downside I noticed was that the main roller brushes have about 1/4 fewer bristles than the OEM versions, so they don't seem quite as dense. Other than that, everything fits as expected and the kit seems like a solid value for maintaining the CurvX.
