The color is the rich, reddish brown of Mesquite heartwood with some creamy beige sapwood and dark chocolate bark. The grain is mostly straight. This block has been fully air dried to 10 12% moisture content. There are a few thin cracks and some wane on two edges. You may wish to infill the cracks with CA glue prior to working with the

The color is the rich, reddish-brown of Mesquite heartwood with some creamy beige sapwood and dark-chocolate bark. The grain is mostly straight. This block has been fully air-dried to 10-12% moisture content. There are a few thin cracks and some wane on two edges. You may wish to infill the cracks with CA glue prior to working with the block. They are fine, and most will turn off if using on the lathe. See photos for closeups. About the Tree This Texas-grown Honey Mesquite tree was harvested in El Campo, Texas in March of 2022. It was cut down by the city for reasons unknown to us, and we were happy to help save the tree from a burn pile. It is possible that this tree was damaged by the Valentine's Day Freeze that Texas suffered in February 2021, which is when our state lost a lot of beautiful trees in an unusually deep and long freeze. You can feel good about this American-grown hardwood being responsibly harvested and turned into beautiful art by YOU. The tree was in healthy growing condition, with a minimum of bug damage and a nice healthy girth to the trunk. There is some minor evidence of fire damage, perhaps from a campfire, near the base of the tree on one side. It may have been in a fairly protected area such as a city park, as the Mesquite is less twisted and gnarly than trees grown in open pastures. The grain looks generally long and straight and of excellent quality for green or dried turning. |

I wanted to add that Kitchen Mama’s customer service was genuinely great. They followed up, honored the warranty, and sent me a replacement even though I couldn’t provide photos at the time. The replacement works perfectly and the experience was way less stressful than I expected.

I just needed a simple electric can opener because I have crippling pain in my hands and I can't use a manual one. I didn't expect anything fancy but for the one job this thing had it still really let me down.
This thing is so slow it reminds me of my AOL days. And when it's done, it just... keeps going. When you turn it off it takes FOREVER to wind down. The first few times I tried yanking it off because I thought it was stuck.
And then it fully died in under a year.
But honestly maybe what bothers me the most of all is when I contacted customer support about the warranty replacement, I got an email back asking for photographic proof that my BATTERIES WERE IN CORRECTLY. Really?
(A photo that I could not provide because it had broken days earlier and I threw it in the trash, who hoards broken appliances?).
I really expected better from a ‘reputable’ brand.

Great opener

Leaves an EXTREMELY SHARP edge - cuts off entire lid from sides of can!

This can opener cut off the whole top of the tuna cans and left an insanely sharp, wobbly, very thin edge of the top of the can that nearly cut me because there was no heavy metal lip left behind to hold the structure of the top of the can! This is a very bad feature that is going to really hurt someone! I do NOT recommend this for anyone! Needs a product recall!
