When you see "Replace Toner" replace the TN830XL toner cartridge. When you see "Replace Drum" or "Drum End Soon" replace the DR830 drum unit.

How to Install Brother DR830 Drum Unit & TN830XL Toner Cartridge

1. Open the front cover of your Brother laser printer
2. Pull the existing drum unit and toner cartridge assembly straight out
3. Press the green release button and separate the used toner cartridge from the old drum unit
4. Remove the new DR830 drum unit from its packaging and remove the orange protective cover from the drum surface
5. Do not touch the green drum surface fingerprints cause permanent print defects
6. Remove the new TN830XL toner cartridge from its packaging, gently shake it horizontally 5-6 times to distribute the toner evenly, then remove the protective seal
7. Insert your TN830XL toner cartridge firmly into the new DR830 drum unit until it clicks into place
8. Slide the new drum and toner assembly back into the printer until it locks
9. Close the front cover

Do not touch the green drum surface. Even brief contact with fingerprints can cause permanent streaks or spots on all future prints.

Important: Reset the Drum Counter After Installation

After installing a new drum unit, your printer will still display "Replace Drum" or "Drum End Soon" until you reset the drum counter. This is normal the printer cannot detect a new drum automatically and requires a manual reset.
