"The iconic Royal Hotel & Winter Palace opened its doors in 1913. In the 1930s an Art Deco swimming pool (which still exists today) and new tennis courts transformed it into a luxurious "resort" ahead of its time. During World War II, the palace served as a vault for a Swiss bank's gold, stored in a bunker that now houses one of its restaurants.
