In 2009 werd de C2-reeks geboren. Dit is een heel bijzonder product gemaakt door de Merlet & Fils distilleerderij en combineert hun expertise in het distilleren van cognac en het maken van likeur. De likeur Merlet C2 Caffee & Cognac 20CL wordt gemaakt in samenwerking met Merling, lokale koffie roasters uit La Rochelle. Braziliaanse Arabica koffie wordt vers geroosterd, gemalen en direct gefuseerd met water. Hierna wordt de koffie gestabiliseerd met neutrale alcohol en gefilterd. Tijdens de vermenging van de likeur en cognac wordt een klein beetje suiker toegevoegd om een optimaal eind product te verkrijgen.

De krachtige smaken van koffie en cognac worden subtiel ondersteund door tonen van vanille, cacao en andere specerijen. In de afdronk zit een licht bittertje van de koffie, die het krijgt door het lage suiker percentage.

In 1850 werd de distilleerderij van Merlet & Fils opgericht door Firmin Merlet. Vijf generaties en 170 jaar verder, wordt het bedrijf nog steeds door de familie gerund. Voor het grootste gedeelte van de familie geschiedenis werd er cognac geproduceerd voor andere cognac huizen. Maar na meer dan 160 jaar voor anderen te hebben gedistilleerd, besloot de familie uiteindelijk om onder eigen naam cognac te gaan produceren. Tegenwoordig bezit het ongeveer veertig hectare wijnstokken in Fins Bois en Borderies. Het werkt samen met verschillende wijnboeren om wijnen en ‘’eau de vigne’’ uit andere ‘crus’ te halen.

Great Espresso Machine for Beginners

Update: Milk teamer doesn't deliver the foam like at the first couple of days, and the espresso doesn't come with the crema any longer. Somehow the pressure goes above the espresso range, and I tried to decrease the amount of coffee, and no results. I am so disappointed. First thing that impressed me about this little espresso machine is how easy it to use. You can make a double espresso shot in literarily 1 minute. Second thing is size, the machine is pretty compact that you can place it anywhere in the kitchen without worrying about taking too much space. Also, it heats up quick, and the options are straightforward. The water tank is just the perfect size, which is excellent for me, and I don't have to refill water constantly. Performance-wise, it feels solid and does an excellent job making shots like what you'd expect in a cafe. The water pressure is just right, delivering this espresso shot without the extra acidity. The flowmeter regulates the water evenly which is great in making that creamy espresso. Something else to note, it's small and also quiet, which is big to me since the last one was making unnecessary noise every time I make a shot. Now, the milk frother is pretty decent, and create that foam you'd love to see in your cappuccino and latte. Overall, this is a pretty decent choice, and feels durable.

Nice upgrade 51mm for me

This is my second 51mm machine. I never used the included handle or basket… I kept my existing HUGH IMS precision basket and bottomless portafilter. The temp and preinfusion are set and not adjustable but fine (reduced variables). I defeated the shut off by volume by setting higher than needed (wish that was easier to turn off). I like to manually shut off when I hit 30g on my scale. The machine will drip since there is not solenoid valve so I just pull the scale from the try when mouse tail breaks and drip starts. The steam wand and hot water dispenser is a massive upgrade (from Capresso EC50) and the real reason for my upgrade. I would have paid $50-100 more for the improvements listed… but I guess most people would not so this is about the best option for me with 51mm (keeping all the 51mm three lug portafilter stuff I own). 5 stars = for me and the price
