Groeikenmerken

De 'Belders' wilg groeit snel en kan een indrukwekkende hoogte bereiken. De takken groeien rechtop, waardoor de boom een statige en opgerichte vorm krijgt. De bast is grijsachtig en vertoont vaak diepe groeven naarmate de boom ouder wordt. Kan perfect geknot worden op circa 1.80-200 cm hoogte.

Bladeren en bloeiwijze

De bladeren van de Schietwilg zijn lang, smal en hebben een kenmerkende zilvergroene kleur. In het voorjaar produceert de boom katjes, die een belangrijke bron van nectar en stuifmeel zijn voor vroege bestuivers.

Ideale standplaats

Salix alba 'Belders' prefereert een plek in de volle zon tot halfschaduw en houdt van vochtige, goed doorlatende grond. Deze boom is bijzonder goed geschikt voor gebieden dicht bij het water. Hij vraagt weinig onderhoud, maar kan jaarlijks gesnoeid (geknot) worden om de vorm te behouden of om te voorkomen dat hij te groot wordt.

Toepassing

Door zijn grootte en opvallende structuur is de 'Belders' perfect als solitaire boom in grote tuinen, parken of langs waterwegen. Deze wilgenboom kan ook gebruikt worden voor natuurlijke afscheidingen of als windbreker in landelijke gebieden.
