Over deze wijn

De "gewone" Barolo van Podere Gagliassi heeft een ander profiel dan de Serralunga en Badarina variant, ondanks dat de druiven uit dezelfde streek komen. 

Voor de 2020 Barolo zijn druiven uit twee wijngaarden van de Serralunga vallei gebruikt, te weten de Sorana wijngaarden in het noorden en de Badarina wijngaarden in het Noorden. Technisch gezien dus niet zomaar een generieke Barolo, maar eigenlijk gewoon een Serralunga denominatie.

De Nebbiolo druiven voor deze Barolo worden eveneens handmatige en pas laat geplukt, eind oktober/begin november. Daarna ondergaan ze volledige ontsteling van de druiven en fermenteren en macereren ze in stalen tanks. Tot slot gaat de wijn gedurende 30 maanden op Frans eiken barriques van 225L en een jaar rijping op de fles, alvorens ze beschikbaar komen op de markt. In tegenstelling tot een aantal andere Barolo's van dit wijnhuis ondergaat deze wijn geen nieuw hout, maar houten vaten die al een passage achter de rug hebben

Deze 2020 jaargang is de op één na meest recent beschikbaar gekomen Barolo's. De 2020 en 2021 verschillen behoorlijk van elkaar in stijl. Vintage 2020 is eleganter en toegankelijker waardoor hij eerder en gemakkelijker drinkbaar is in zijn jeugd. Heeft desondanks een groot bewaarpotentieel dat niet mag worden onderschat. 

 

Proefnotitie

De wijn kleurt licht rood in het glas met paarse schittering, zoals je van een jonge nebbiolo nog mag verwachten. De wijn toont zich in de neus zeer mineraal met geur van verpulverde steen/terracotta, naast subtiel fruit, tonen van tabak, gedroogde bloemen en specerijen. 

In de mond merk je dat het Franse eiken de tannines gedurende 30 maanden enorm heeft verfijnd en een aromatische verdieping heeft gegeven. Doordat er geen nieuw hout is gebruikt zul je minder subtiele vanilletonen opmerken. De zuren zijn prachtige lang en de afdronk lijkt eindeloos. Ondanks het "strenge" profiel van deze Barolo blijft de wijn fris en verkwikkend met een zeer typische identiteit.
