De 19-koppige New Cool Collective Big Band ontstond in 1996 tijdens de Big Mondays avonden in het Amsterdamse café Meander, met muzikanten uit verschillende scenes. Al die stijlen komen terug in de muziek. New Cool Collective gaat onder leiding van saxofonist Benjamin Herman met regelmaat samenwerkingen aan met topmuzikanten uit diverse windstreken. Op dit album komen de werelden van de New Cool Collective Big Band en de saxofonist Thierno Koite (oa. Orchestra Baobab, Le Sahel) samen. New Cool Collective kwam de saxofonist tegen op een reis door Afrika in 2013 en zag zijn geluid als inspiratie voor het schrijven van een geheel nieuw repertoire.
