De perenboom Beurre Hardy is de oudste handpeer die verkrijgbaar is op de markt. De Beurre Hardy zien wij dan ook wel als de ''Originele handpeer''. Als u dus misschien dacht: ''Poah, die grove schil om die peer, dat lijkt wel een peer uit de Dik Trom films van de jaren 60'', dan zit u in de goede richting te denken. De perenboom Beurre Hardy was toen ook zeker populair. Deze peer heeft inderdaad een wat grovere schil en ziet er wellicht niet al te aantrekkelijk uit, maar is echt heel lekker! De peer mag wat betreft ons gedefinieerd worden als ''zoet''. De volledige naam van deze perenboom is de Pyrus Communis Beurre Hardy. 

Maar de peren van de Beurre Hardy zijn natuurlijk niet het enige aan deze perenboom. Deze perenboom heeft namelijk ook het meeste bloesem van allemaal. Prachtige witte en aromatische bloesem krijgt u er gewoon gratis bij. Uiteraard heeft de Sierpeer (Pyrus calleryana Chanticleer) nog meer bloesem, maar daarvoor is het een sierpeer. Voor bestuiving van de Beurre Hardy kunt u het beste een Perenboom Pyrus communis Conference (favoriet) gebruiken. Dit soort kan namelijk geen peren vanuit zichzelf creëren. Voordat u de perenboom Beurre Hardy gaat kopen geven we u graag nog wat deskundig advies mee. Het is belangrijk om de onderstaande puntjes even goed te bekijken, want zo kunt u zien of de Beurre Hardy bij u en uw tuin past. En zo niet, geen zorgen er zijn nog zat soorten fruitbomen en perenbomen.

  1. Een perenboom is eigenlijk altijd wel goed winterhard
  2. Deze perenboom groeit het beste op lichte klei, maar zand of loss is ook echt prima
  3. Natte of droge grond maakt ook niet uit
  4. Een perenboom staat het liefst in de zon, maar halfschaduw kan ook
  5. De bloesem komt in april met witte geurende (aromatische) bloesem.
  6. De Beurre Hardy heeft een gele/oranje herfstkleur
  7. Geen één perenboom is bladhoudend
  8. U kunt het beste 2 keer snoeien. In het najaar de grote snoei (max 30%) en in de zomer een kleinere snoei voor de vorm
  9. Wees bij het snoeien voorzichtig met de takken waarop bloesem heeft gezeten (kortloten)
  10. Nog nooit een fruitboom gesnoeid? Bekijk dan fruitboom snoeien
  11. De smaak van deze peer is sterk aanwezig en ietwat zoet, maar niet erg overdreven zoet of sappig
