 INSTRUMENTAL SURF ROCK FROM JAPAN!!!

I've been digging this band's long player since I discovered it and had assumed it was their only release.  But I was wrong!  This EP apparently comes from many years earlier...this maybe their maiden voyage into the grooves of a record.  (But while reportedly recorded in 2006, I'm not sure if the 4 songs were released until now.) Each of the 4 cuts have got plenty in common but each also clearly possessing its own mood and sound, sounds clearly inspired by the late 1950s and mostly by the early 1960s, "Chanbara-Ogin" probably about a female samurai in a sword fight, sure sounds like it, opening with the stand-off like a gunfight in a spaghetti western, and then slashing into the action...all the four cuts just great with the closer "Kita-Kaze" [North Wind] maybe my personal favorite, likely capturing the sounds and feelings of riding a swell, and if so, it does it just perfectly, like so many of the great songs on earth--full of restraint and release--easing into it, and then diving deep into it, you can feel the flutter of the board and almost taste the spray. Vital 7" slab of wax, essential listen for fans of surf rock!

Nagahama (probably referencing the city in northern Japan)

Oh! Showgatsu (Oh! New Year)

Chanbara-Ogin

  • Chanbara (チャンバラ): The Japanese term for sword fighting or the samurai cinema genre. It comes from an onomatopoeia for the sound of clashing blades (like chan-chan and bara-bara).
  • Ogin (お銀): A historical, affectionate, or traditional female name in Japan, frequently used in pop culture to reference female ninja or drifter characters.
Kita-Kaze (North Wind)

— winch

— winch

Great book to help establish a palette for a software, web or art project
Format: Paperback
I love this book for helping me establish a color palette for art projects that I want a Japanese feel to. Also just generally good for getting inspiration for color palettes that just plain look good. I've always, since I can remember from my youth, felt drawn to the Japanese color combinations in kimono. fashion, origami paper and even toys. Maybe it's a consequence of growing up in Hawaii with all the Japanese influences I had -- or, as I suspect, it's just really good color application. This book helps me find the colors I want that go together the way I want. I use the examples in this book with a Color Muse to pick my digital color palette.

Terrific content, soft cover.
Format: Paperback
It is way smaller than expected but it is amazing in content. The only think I do not like is that it has an extremely soft external cover, which worries me on the long run.

Useful and creative gift
Format: Paperback
I bought this for my friend since she has really been into sewing and dressing up in bolder outfit. When she saw the book, she told me she has been eyeing this and was really interested in the different color combinations. It is a small but unique book with so many different patterns and color combinations that can inspire people's lives with how they dress or decorate their living area.
