На шляху до возз’єднання з нею Осман Другий пережив чимало сумних подій — передчасні смерті батьків — султана Ахмеда й матері — валіде Махфіруз, зміну умов престолонаслідування в Османській імперії, яка ненадовго відібрала у нього право на владу, та, зрештою, — омріяне сходження на трон, котре обернулося трагедією.

Висвітлені у першій книзі роману події відбувалися за життя наймогутніших в османській історії героїнь доби 'Жіночого султанату' — Сафіє, Халіме та Кьосем, які були причетні до палацових змов та інтриг. Усе це відбилося на долі Османа Другого та його коханої Мелексіми.
