‘Someone give this man some proper film soundtrack work, please.’ The Observer

Following the shock announcement of the Arab Strap split, here’s some good news for fans of Aidan Moffat’s side project, L. Pierre – there’s a new album, Dip, on the horizon. Written and recorded before the Arab Strap breakup was finalised, Dip explores a quieter, more contemplative side of Moffat’s musical personality.

“My favourite L. Pierre tracks have always been the quiet ones so I wanted to pursue that mood and record something gentle and lovely,” he says. “I also took a shine to field recording and bought myself a little Minidisc recorder, which I took on holiday to record some natural ambience.”

A giant sideways leap from the critically acclaimed Hypnogogia (2002) and Touchpool (2004), Dip finds Moffat eschewing the drum loops and effects that characterised his previous recordings in favour of a more organic, live sound, with a specially assembled group of Alan Barr (cello), Stevie Jones (double bass) and Allan Wylie (trumpet) complementing Moffat on drums, keyboards, percussion and harmonium. The result is an album that takes us on a journey through the full range of human emotions, from Ache’s morose, mournful strings to the frantic, jesterly Hike. Ending as it begins, with the sound of the waves crashing against the shore, there’s a sense of oneness to the album, as if it could play forever as a song cycle. This, says Moffat, is because Dip was conceived as a whole album, rather than a collection of odds and ends.

“The album had a concept from the beginning,” he says. “Its theme is nature and the great outdoors, and particularly the sea, hence ‘Dip’, a title I stole from the movie of the artist who kindly donated the film images for the artwork.”

So this is it; the sound of one of our generation’s great chroniclers of urban squalor and messy relationships contemplating the mysteries of Mother Nature and delivering a dreamlike, immersive album as a result. But it’s not necessarily an avenue Moffat will revisit any time soon.

“I hear dance music is all the rage again,” he says. “Maybe I’ll reinvent myself as a superstar DJ. I’d make more money that way anyway.”

Happy with purchase
Color: White Floral, Size: 3X-Large
This shirt is soft and comfortable. I love the sleeve length. The print is nice. It looks nice with jeans, casual pants, and skirts making it versatile. My only complaint is that I have already noticed fading after two washes.

Great top for a great price.
Color: Gray Floral, Size: Large
This top comes past my hips so I love the length. It is so attractive and comfortable and the price was incredible! I bought two other tops by Zeagoo and am very pleased with them also. Beautiful colors!

Love these tunics!
Color: Aprioct Boho Yg9, Size: XX-Large
I absolutely love these tunics! They are very figure flattering & so soft & comfortable to wear. The material is on the thinner side so they are great for warmer weather. I have very sensitive skin so many fabrics irritate me but this one is fabulous. I would wash on gentle & hang to dry to keep fabric looking nice. After wearing the first one, I ordered 3 more…

Pretty Tunic Top
Color: Willowfloral, Size: X-Large
Very happy with this tunic top! Long enough for me to feel good about wearing it with leggings, but not SO long it feels like a dress. Really good V-neck, not just a little notch at the top that some brands call a v-neck. I ordered the teal floral XL and was very happy with the fit and drape. I'm a size 18W with a 42D bust and a chubby waistline. I often end up in XXL or 1X tops, but this fit well as an XL. Nice feel to the material and a bargain at the price!

Very flattering in my opinion
I'm 5'6 and no hips, so I really liked that the length is a little longer and flares a little at the hips giving my chunky but not curvy figure some illusion of a girlish figure. The pattern and colors were pretty & I'd say pretty close to the ad. Great blues and a coral/peach ... not sure my camera did it justice. I like the pleat at the back ... I feel that it minimizes the bra bulge that can happen at times. I stepped out after try on and my guy said it looked great (he's a truth teller with clothes) so that made me feel better because sometimes I see what I want to see at first & later see the flaws. I do see the case instructions ... getting used to hang to dry all things lately. Feels a little more nylon-ish but not bad. Its not super thin and light where I think it's a clingy thing. Really do like this shirt
