Дослідження, ідентифікація та збереження історико-культурної спадщини є одним із пріоритетних напрямків діяльності Науково-дослідного інституту українознавства КНУ імені Тараса Шевченка. Монографія присвячена вивченню пам’яток підводної спадщини, що розташовані в територіальних водах України та пов’язані з подіями Східної (або Кримської) війни 1853–56 років. Автор узагальнює результати українських підводних археологічних розвідок на Чорноморському шельфі – як тих, у яких безпосередньо брав участь (до 2014 року), так і тих, звіти про які ним було опрацьовано. Описуються артефакти, підняті з затонулих британських кораблів.
