My life has been marked by trials that could snuff out the spirit, yet they failed to extinguish the flame of hope within me. As a teenager, I navigated the harrowing landscape of a brutal civil war, where every day was a battle for survival. Amidst the chaos, I clung fiercely to my dreams and refused to let the darkness consume me.

I witnessed horrors that would haunt me for a lifetime. People fell around me, their lives stolen by senseless brutality. The sight of severed hands and the sound of gunfire tearing through the air were the nightmares that plagued my reality. Yet, through it all, I refused to surrender to despair. I held fast to the belief that there was still a future, still a path forward. I pressed forward and ran for my life, determined to escape and bear witness to the atrocities I had seen.

The loss of my father, my pillar of strength, could have shattered me. But still, I carried on and honored his memory with tenacity and determination. Displacement became my new reality as I sought refuge in camps and foreign lands. Despite the uncertainty and adversity, I remained steadfast in my resolve. I endured a bitter cold winter without any heat in a new country. The trials of everyday life in this new country tested my endurance, but they could not break me.

I emerged from each challenge stronger and more resilient than before. And when the world seemed to turn its back on me, when doubt and uncertainty threatened to consume me, I refused to be defined by others’ perceptions. I clung to my dreams with unwavering determination. This book is a testament to the power of resilience, a beacon of hope for those who find themselves in the darkest of nights. No matter the obstacles you face, no matter the odds stacked against you, know this: resilience is your greatest ally. Hold fast to your dreams, for they are the light that will guide you through the storm. Do not give up. You are capable of more than you realize.

New York Burning
Format: Paperback
. This is an important book that explores in depth what is usually only found in textbooks as a one-sentence summation: "In 1741 there was a slave uprising in New York City." Scholars will probably be happier starting with the Appendix and bibliography and then reading the book. The text is disorganized and uneven, and although this is non-fiction, the characters could have been more finely drawn. Peter Zenger's trail keeps popping up in unexpected places, often disconnected from the action the author is working on. Some sections are heavy on primary documents and period writings, others are more poetic. Yes, I do understand the parallels with the Salem Witch Trials. The Salem Witch Trials get more press today because of Arthur Miller's "Crucible." Color and religion of the participants aside, both events are stories of group think and mass hysteria, fear and anger. There is plenty of room here for a first-class film or play to be written. Read this book, learn from it. Expect to complain about it. Kim Burdick Stanton, DE

What You Didn't Know
Format: Paperback
Did you know that if you were a Catholic Priest on the streets of New York in 1747 that you'd be arrested and hung! Great book if you're interested in the times during which our founding Fathers were growing up. It'll give you a different concept on how slavery was different in NYC as opposed to in the South, and how many of the streets in NYC got there names from English magistrates. If you like history, especially of NYC, you'll love this book.

Affordable and gets the job done
Format: Paperback
This is a great book. It gets the job done. It's clear and concise about the important concepts. The authors really edit the cases so that only the important and relevant stuff without the other fluff. I think that this book is better than other expensive textbooks. I don't think anyone didn't love this book. 100% would encourage professors to assign this book.

Genuinely the best textbook ever
Format: Paperback
I have never had a better time understanding cases / the law than in this book. The authors made it incredibly straightforward & easy to read which is highly appreciable as the majority of other legal textbooks are confusing & full of questions without answers. 11/10 recommend!!!!!!!!!!
