Overview

The Red Spotted Pygmy Basslet is a rare and captivating reef fish featuring a warm pinkish-red body adorned with fine red spotting and a sleek, elongated profile. Peaceful, hardy, and full of subtle beauty, this uncommon species makes a refined addition to community or reef aquariums.

Origin

Native to the Western Pacific, particularly around Indonesia and Papua New Guinea, this species inhabits coral reefs and rubble zones, where it shelters in crevices and hunts for small crustaceans and planktonic prey.

Feeding

A carnivorous species that thrives on small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and high-quality frozen or pellet preparations. Feed once or twice daily for best color and vitality.

Tank Mates

Generally peaceful and reef-safe, the Red Spotted Pygmy Basslet can be kept with a variety of small, non-aggressive fish including gobies, blennies, clownfish, and chromis. Avoid very large or aggressive tank mates that may intimidate or outcompete it for food.

Aggression

Peaceful and shy, especially when first introduced. Providing plenty of rockwork and shaded hiding places allows it to feel secure and display its natural behavior.

Experience Level

Recommended for intermediate aquarists. This hardy yet uncommon species adapts well to established aquariums with stable water parameters and a peaceful community.

Water Parameters
  • Temperature: 75°F – 80°F (24°C – 27°C)
  • Salinity: 1.020 – 1.025 SG
  • pH: 8.1 – 8.4
  • Alkalinity: 8 – 12 dKH

Graceful, rare, and beautifully marked, the Red Spotted Pygmy Basslet is a hidden gem among reef fish—perfect for aquarists seeking a peaceful and unique addition to their marine collection.

Bigger than expected, but my pup enjoys it
Color: Green Bird
This toy has been a great surprise for my dog. The green bird design is cute, but more importantly it’s actually held up really well to her throwing it around and chewing. The material feels sturdy, and the stitching has stayed intact even after lots of chewing, tugging, and carrying it around all day. It's bigger than I expected, but that hasn't deterred my Chihuahua. As a 2-1/2 year old with plenty of energy, she is definitely getting lots of use out of it! What I like most is that it keeps my dog engaged — the squeaker grabs attention right away, and it’s perfect for interactive play like tug-of-war. It’s soft enough to be a comfort toy but durable enough to handle rough play, which is hard to find. Overall, a fun and well-made toy that keeps my pup entertained and has lasted longer than many other dog toys I’ve tried. Definitely a good choice for dogs that love to chew and play hard.

The toys body is very durable, but the squeakers were broken within minutes without tearing it apart
Color: Green Bird
This is a squeaky dog toy that was supposedly very durable. I have to say that the squeakers are not durable and were immediately destroyed by my husky. The actual body of the toy is very durable and they were not able to rip it apart. They were able to destroy the squeakers without damaging the actual exterior of this toy. The toy itself is pretty soft except where it’s made of rope. Since it didn’t have any stuffing come out I will say that it was durable enough for chewing. This would be suitable for large larger dogs and even smaller dogs. I do feel this is a good value for the money because they were not able to rip it apart. I just wish the squeakers were more durable inside because there’s no way to replace those.

Our dogs new favorite toy
Color: Green Bird, Color: Green Bird
Our golden doodle loves this toy. He isn't a highly aggressive chewer necessarily, but he has been known to destroy toys by chewing on them and such. This one, so far, has lasted over a month or so. It has turned out to be his go to toy when he's wanting to play with one. The squeaker isn't that loud and it's not that easy to find. I like that legs are rope material and makes it good for tug of war, which Max loves to do. The material is pretty sturdy and it is a good weight. Sometimes when the toys are too heavy Max won't catch them in the air, this one he catches in the air just fine. It's very cute and I think it will hold up just fine to our Max's level of chewing. I felt the price was quite reasonable considering how much he likes it.
