Vince Carter is one of the greatest Raptors to ever step onto the court and was instrumental in helping to build up the Raptors franchise from a struggling expansion team. Initially drafted by the Golden State Warriors with the fifth-overall pick in 1998, Carter was immediately traded to Toronto for their fourth-overall pick, and Carter's former college teammate, Antawn Jamison. With an exciting and high-flying style of play, Carter quickly became a fan favourite in Toronto, earning several nicknames inspired by his huge dunks, including "Air Canada", "Vincanity", and "Half-Man, Half-Amazing". He helped lead the Raptors to their first ever playoff birth in 2000 and later a 47-win season and their first ever playoff-series win the follow season. His highlight-reel dunks were awe-inspiring, and when given the platform at his first ever All-Star Weekend in his second season, he did not disappoint. Considered one of the greatest and most memorable slam dunk contests in league history, Carter out-dunked fellow teammate Tracy McGrady and NBA-great Steve Francis, performing several unbelievable dunks that continue to excite fans today. Although never able to bring the elusive championship north of the border, Carter helped put the franchise on the map while also helping to grow the sport in Canada and inspire countless young fans throughout Toronto and across the country. Although his tenure with the Raptors ended with a shaky exit in 2004 over disagreements with ownership and management that continues to divide fans today, Carter remains one of the teams all-time greatest. During his time in Toronto, Carter won Rookie of the Year honours in 1999, was the NBA Slam Dunk Contest Champion (2000), and would go on to earn eight All-Star invitations between 2000 and 2007. He is also the franchise leader in points-per-game (23.4).
