Written with the sweep of an epic novel and grounded in extensive research into contemporary documents, Savage Peace is a striking portrait of American democracy under stress. It is the surprising story of America in the year 1919. In the aftermath of an unprecedented worldwide war and a flu pandemic, Americans began the year full of hope, expecting to reap the benefits of peace. But instead, the fear of terrorism filled their days. Bolshevism was the new menace, and the federal government, utilizing a vast network of domestic spies, began to watch anyone deemed suspicious. A young lawyer named J. Edgar Hoover headed a brand-new intelligence division of the Bureau of Investigation (later to become the FBI). Bombs exploded on the doorstep of the attorney general's home in Washington, D.C., and thirty-six parcels containing bombs were discovered at post offices across the country. Poet and journalist Carl Sandburg, recently returned from abroad with a trunk full of Bolshevik literature, was detained in New York, his trunk seized. A twenty-one-year-old Russian girl living in New York was sentenced to fifteen years in prison for protesting U.S. intervention in Arctic Russia, where thousands of American soldiers remained after the Armistice, ostensibly to guard supplies but in reality to join a British force meant to be a warning to the new Bolshevik government. In 1919, wartime legislation intended to curb criticism of the government was extended and even strengthened. Labor strife was a daily occurrence. And decorated African-American soldiers, returning home to claim the democracy for which they had risked their lives, were badly disappointed. Lynchings continued, race riots would erupt in twenty-six cities before the year ended, and secret agents from the government's Negro Subversion unit routinely shadowed outspoken African-Americans. Adding a vivid human drama to the greater historical narrative, Savage Peace brings 1919 alive through the people who played a major role in making the year so remarkable. Among them are William Monroe Trotter, who tried to put democracy for African-Americans on the agenda at the Paris peace talks; Supreme Court associate justice Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr., who struggled to find a balance between free speech and legitimate government restrictions for reasons of national security, producing a memorable decision for the future of free speech in America; and journalist Ray Stannard Baker, confidant of President Woodrow Wilson, who watched carefully as Wilson's idealism crumbled and wrote the best accounts we have of the president's frustration and disappointment. Weaving together the stories of a panoramic cast of characters, from Albert Einstein to Helen Keller, Ann Hagedorn brilliantly illuminates America at a pivotal moment.Binding Type: Paperback

Keeping the crusty heels at bay!
Color: Cotton Gray, Size: Regular
I deal with chronic dry heels that crack if left unmanaged. I bought these in hopes that when I do soak and scrub my heels that I can keep the cracking at bay. These have been a godsend. I wear them every night and my heels are nice and soft. I plan on purchasing more.
A couple of things I have noticed, if I wear these during the day, the bottom of my feet do seem to sweat and there is some slipping. I have only washed these are directed (hand washing) and you will want to after a couple washes because it could give a sweaty feet smell. Overall, I highly recommend.

Moisturized heels out of the box
Color: Fuzzy Lilac Purple, Size: Regular
Work without adding anything to your feet, but there are extra nice if you wanted to add a moisturizer to you heel and not get it all over your socks. Worth the money!

A Staple in Skin Care Routine
Style: Milky Toner
This toner has become a staple in my skincare routine. I have sensitive skin and a lot of products tend to cause irritation or redness, but this one has been incredibly gentle from the start. My skin always feels soft, calm, and hydrated after using it.
The texture is lightweight with an almost soapy feel at first, but it absorbs quickly and never leaves my skin feeling greasy or heavy. It layers well with the rest of my skincare and works great both morning and night. I also appreciate that it gives results similar to more expensive brands without the high price tag. Definitely one of the better affordable skincare products I’ve tried.

My Favorite Product in the Milky Line
Style: Milky Toner, Style: Milky Toner
This toner has easily become my favorite product from Thayers brand and all other brands. I’m very picky about my skincare routine, especially when it comes to products I use daily, and this one has completely earned a permanent spot in my routine.
It feels incredibly gentle, hydrating, and soothing on the skin without feeling sticky or heavy. I love the ingredients, especially the snow mushroom and hyaluronic acid, because my skin always feels soft, balanced, and refreshed after using it. I’ve also noticed my pores looking smoother and overall healthier since incorporating this toner consistently.
The formula works beautifully with the rest of the Milky line, and my skin genuinely looks and feels better when I use it regularly. I’ll absolutely continue repurchasing this product.

Hydration + glow without irritation!
Style: Milky Toner
I’ve been using this milky toner for a couple months now and it has quickly become a staple in my routine. The texture is lightweight but creamy, which makes it feel more nourishing than a typical watery toner. It absorbs really well into my skin without leaving and sticky or greasy residue. I haven’t noticed that my skin feels softer and more hydrated after applying it AND it layers so nicely with serums and moisturizers. One thing I really appreciate is how gentle it is on my skin. It doesn’t cause any irritation, redness or breakouts! I actually feel like it helps calm my skin on days when It feels a little dry or “stressed”. Overall, I think it is a great option if you are looking for a hydrating, soothing toner that fits easily into either a simple or more detailed skincare routine. I will 100% be repurchasing when I run out of my current bottle
