Although not generally regarded as one of the most fashionable British aircraft to see service during the Second World War, the Avro Anson was nevertheless one of the most important aircraft not only of the inter-war years, but also during WWII itself and is deserving of more recognition than it usually receives. An aircraft which began its development in 1933 as a high speed, long range, modern mail carrying charter aircraft, the Avro 652 was still in development when the British Air Ministry issued a requirement for a twin engined, general reconnaissance and multi-role aircraft capable of performing a variety of roles for both the Royal Air force and the Royal Navy.

The Avro team felt that their new aircraft would be perfect for the role and later entered it in an official evaluation program with the competitor de Havilland DH89M, the military version of their biplane Dragon Rapide. The Avro design was found to possess greater range and endurance and whilst not without a few areas which would require some design modifications, an initial order for 174 militarized aircraft was placed. The Avro 652 would be given the name Anson after an Eighteenth Century British Admiral of the fleet, a development which did not please everyone at the Air Ministry, but as the aircraft was intended to undertake maritime patrols, the name did seem rather appropriate.

Highlighting the importance of the Avro Anson as a British aircraft type, when it entered service with No.48 Squadron at RAF Manston in March 1936, it became the first monoplane type to achieve squadron service status, but was also the first RAF aircraft to feature a retractable undercarriage. At this time, the advanced Anson quickly began to attract attention from several other countries and in order to capitalize on this interest, some aircraft were diverted from existing RAF orders to fulfil these requirements, with full production forcing Avro to open new manufacturing facilities in the North West of England. The RAF Anson Mk.I was equipped with a fixed forward firing .303 machine gun operated by the pilot and a single Lewis gun mounted in the manually traversed dorsal turret. It could also be equipped with a modest bomb load, something which was required by submarine hunting aircraft operated by Coastal Command and whilst there were no reports of an Anson sinking a U-Boat, their presence would keep these feared hunters submerged.

During the Dunkirk evacuations, Ansons used to cover the operation came under attack by Messerschmitt Bf 109 fighters, which had real difficulty engaging the slow flying British aircraft. Consistently overshooting the Ansons, they came in the sights of the aircraft's forward firing gun and astonishingly, two of the Luftwaffe fighters were shot down and a third was badly damaged, with all the Ansons escaping from the engagement unscathed. Despite the fact that the RAF entered the Second World War with 26 squadrons equipped with Avro Ansons, they were basically obsolete as a fighting machine and particularly for the ones assigned to Bomber Command, they were quickly withdrawn to secondary training roles, a task for which the 'Faithfull Annie' was particularly well suited. As part of the Empire Air Training Scheme, many thousands of aircrew destined for service with Bomber Command were trained both in the UK and overseas, including those destined to serve in the Avro Lancaster, the mighty bomber which was produced in some of the same factories previously used to produce Ansons.

With just under 11,000 Ansons eventually produced, the final RAF example was only withdrawn from service as a station communications aircraft in 1968.

Great and comfy
Color: White
This is genuinely such a good chair and super comfy, the assembly was a little confusing at first but it’s very simple once you get started. I’m 5’2 and it’s nice and big, you can sit however you want and although it is expensive I do think it’s worth it. You can fully recline down to sleep if you wanted as well. It’s nicely designed and sturdy. Definitely get it if you are thinking about it!!

LIFE-CHANGING. The only chair you'll ever want or need.
Color: Black
So... This chair has absolutely changed my life. I don't often leave reviews, but this is WORTH IT. I want one in every room in my home. Just as the other reviewer with the 'life-changing chair' title to their review: I've had 100% the same experience - especially as someone who sits 3,000 different ways w/ ADHD lol. So, in addition to agreeing with all those comments... I'll just add a few more thoughts here to further convince you: - I received the Cream/Teddy one as a Christmas gift and have literally have looked forward to sitting it in for work every. single. morning. for work. - I *ALSO* purchased a second one in the black velvet one to gift to my partner and his experience has also been 'life-changing.' (The black velvet is definitely sleeker looking, almost a teeny slippery, but just beautiful fabric. Love it. A note here: the fabric came with a crease, which steamed out no problem.) - I sit and edit websites and photo/video everyday, all day, for work, and I also spend a good chunk of my time gaming with my partner. (Now we are *both* very comfortable for those longer 5+ hour sessions.) - Previously I had tried the viral criss-cross chair and while it was cute and great at first, it just didn't hold up and started causing numb spots on my lower back after ~2 hours. Not an all-day chair at all. This one has solved all back issues for me! Size: definitely big & the back is quite a tall height but it makes you feel cozy, supported, *and* you can lean back, recline, adjust every little bit you like, have space for a velcro cat, sit criss-cross or 3,000 other ways as a ADHDr trying to sit all day, lol, etc. -- all things I was looking for in an upgrade. For reference, it fits someone 5'5" to 6"5" just as comfortably. I'd say it feels on the bigger side for someone under 6 foot, but personally, I love that. It's like a real adult chair - much needed if you sit for 6+ hours a day. Leg rest: Easy to flip out, I love using this so you can sit cross cross AND lean back, or just as extra 'accommodate the cat' space. Noise level: the arms clicking down/adjusting is loud, but I don't find myself adjusting them all that often. Especially when my cat claims this chair first, anticipating the start of our work day. Comfort level: 100% and 2.5-3 months in, it's still going strong and I'm more obsessed each day. *To the store: THANK YOU for making this chair, please never stop. *To the person reading this review: BUY IT. Let this be the review to convince you - your cat will take over the chair and you'll have to fight over it, it's that comfy. I mean, they know best, do they not?

Beautiful sturdy, cozy chair, BUT…..
Color: White, Color: White
Updated review. I was so excited to get this chair that I jumped the gun and wrote the review prior to spending more time seated. I only have one issue, which is the back bottom of the seat cushion. That’s a big deal. It appears so thick, fluffy and inviting, however, when I sat in it for a couple of hours it completely went flat in the back feeling like I was sitting on a board. I’m 5’4” 180 lbs, which means my feet don’t touch the floor so adding a cushion will elevate me a little more. I’m OK with that but it’s going to ruin aesthetic of the chair which is which is not ok. I do love the idea of this chair. It’s design and the color. I wish the seat cushion had a zipper, which would eliminate my issue. I’d say if you’re someone who has to spend a lot of hours in this chair, you probably won’t like it. I do like the reclining back and the foot rest. It is comfortable to lay back but that doesn’t change the issue in the back bottom of the seat cushion. I absolutely love this chair, I didn’t want to get up. It’s beautiful and cozy. Assembly was easy as I’ve assembled chairs before. I changed the wheels to a double roller blade easy on hard wood floors. I also scotch guarded the entire chair. This chair is sturdy and well made.

just get it and stop second guessing
Color: White, Color: White
I reallllly love this chair. I almost talked myself out of it because of some of the bad reviews here and there but i’m glad i listened to a majority of the good reviews, because this chair is perfect. shipping: it was super fast. it came 5 days earlier than expected. I got it on a Monday when it said it’d be here on Friday packaging: double boxed and bubble wrapped. Didn’t find any dings or scratches on anything. all parts were there including instructions assembly: my boyfriend put it together in 40 minutes. We didn’t have any issues zipping up the back cover like other reviews said and he said it was easy instructions to follow, and easy to put together. size and comfort: it’s bigger than the pictures let on! I’m 5’3 135lbs and feel like I’m sitting on a giant cloud. The comfort is 10/10. I just had a chair with basicslly zero butt cushion which i cannot have while working from home 8+ hrs a day in a chair. Comfort was the most important for me and I finally can’t feel the flat seat under me. I can’t express how comfy it is. Functions: can move the arm rests up and down. adjust the back to tilt all the way back to a sleeping position or fully upright which i didn’t even realize was a function! The only thing with the armrests; if you’re wanting your pet on it (like advertised) when the arm rests is put down there is a big gap that isn’t comfortable for animals (as pictured) so I have to put a blanket or pillow there for my small dog to lay comfortably. I’m obsessed with the fact I can sit cross legged, normally, laying down, sprawled up, or legs up. I have room to sit however I want, and the foot rests helps a ton with feeling even more comfortable. Overall, I’d get this chair 10x over. Not only do I work from home and spend hours in a chair, but I spend additional time playing video games so a good quality chair is very important to me. This has began to help fix my posture and back and neck issues. Get it!!!

If You Sit Weird Like Me… Just Buy This Chair
Color: Galaxy Black
I work from home and spend a lot of time sitting for hobbies like Legos, PC games, and crafts—so a comfortable chair is a must. I LOVE this chair so far. I’ve always struggled to get comfortable in traditional office chairs, and the ability to move around is really important to me. With this one, I can easily cross my legs, use the footrest to stretch out with my knees bent, or just sit normally. I’m 5’4”, so my feet don’t quite touch the ground, but that doesn’t bother me since I’m constantly switching positions anyway. I’ll probably add a small pillow for extra back support and maybe fold a blanket for a bit more seat cushioning. It’s comfortable overall, but after long periods of sitting, you might start to feel it. The black sparkle version is MUCH cuter in person, and I’m so glad I went with it. A lot of reviews say, “don’t think about it, just get it”—and honestly, they’re right. I debated for a couple weeks before buying, and I have zero regrets. Assembly was easier than I expected. I tend to get frustrated putting things together, but this was pretty painless. One tip: check inside the cushioned back piece for the extra headrest part—you’ll need it to attach to the hard back before inserting it into the cushion. Once I figured that out, the rest was simple. The chair is a bit larger than a standard office chair and can feel a little bulky depending on your desk setup, but I actually like the extra space since I move around a lot while sitting. It feels sturdy and well-made. It’s also slightly warmer than a mesh chair, which I personally love because I’m always cold. I am just happy to find a chair that feels comfortable like a recliner and movable like an office chair.
