Her work Das Was Ist (That Which Is) is a series of curtains with circular holes installed in the entrance to the Palais de Tokyo in Paris as a part of her solo exhibition Le Milieu est Bleu.

  "…the coloured curtains are a reference to theatrical history, but they can also be associated with the history of monochrome painting, or Brazilian art of the 1960s (…) The pierced curtains become a metaphor for photographic optics and the making of a frame…” (Laure Fernandez)

  Reproducing this physical installation piece translates the work into a series graphically flat circles with hard borders between signature colour juxtapositions that create multiple non concentric edge-like puzzle pieces when played.

  Ulla von Brandenburg is a Paris based German artist whose work is characterised by a diversity of means and media such as installations, films, watercolours, murals, collages, performances… that answer to one another and which she stages according to different exhibition spaces.

  Her internationally recognised work has appeared in numerous solo shows including the Palais de Tokyo in Paris and the Whitechapel Gallery in London.
