"The French Eye: Modernism, Style & Design" auction at Phillips de Pury & Luxembourg in New York on Apr. 25, 2002, did quite well, totaling $1.2 million with premium, just about in the middle of the presale estimate. About 95 percent of the 85 lots sold (many of the lots had no reserve, and the house charged a commission for the sale). The material came from a California home that had been styled by Robert Couturier; its owners were not disclosed.

The top lot, a large (ca. 48 x 40 in.) faceted octagonal mirror by Serge Roche, ca. 1935, picturesquely marked with signs of age, sold for $114,700, above its unpublished presale low estimate of $100,000. Mirrors proved to be in exceptional demand at the auction, with three others from the 1950s designed by the Surrealist jeweler Line Vautrin going to dueling telephone bidders for upwards of 10 times their estimates, at $33,350, $23,000 and $14,950, respectively. "One discovery of the sale," said Phillips' expert James Zemaitis, "is the market for mirrors by Vautrin."

"And Royere is almost unstoppable," Zemaitis added. The distinctively designed pair of six-light sconces, fashioned by Jean Royère with a tubular red-painted metal framework ca. 1950, sold for $68,500 (est. $30,000-$40,000). The Royère pair of wrought-iron chenets, ca. 1950, which bring a rare modernist panache to the lowly andiron, sold for $25,300 (est. $5,000-$7,000).

The rage for Jean-Michel Frank, on the other hand, seems to have peaked. An elegantly simple dressing table of polished sycamore with a fold-up mirror, ca. 1935, sold for $57,500, beneath the presale estimate of $60,000-$90,000, and the Frank daybed, ca. 1940, went for $32,200, also well under its presale low estimate of $50,000.

The auction opened with several pairs of gilt-bronze doorplates by Diego Giacometti; one lot of two pairs sold for $14,950, well over the high estimate of $9,000. Giacometti's plaster models for a lion, cat and leaf decoration went for a song, selling for under their $5,000 presale estimate for $2,300, $2,185 and $2,300, respectively.

GSD Winner
Color: Blue+Red
10/10 recommend for big dogs with a tough chew. Our GSD absolutely loves these squeaky balls. They have perfect texture for his teeth and for our grip. They are the size of a baseball and are so durable and fun. Yes the squeaky is LOUD but he loves them so much that it's cute

Still in one piece and still squeaks--that's a win with my Pitbull.
Color: Blue+Red
Great toys for my dog. I can't say your dog won't chew through these, but my little Pitbull who chews through most 'tough' toys within 15 minutes is still working on these. Both are still intact and still squeak two days later. And that's something for her. She's a master at surgically removing squeakers from toys. I'm happy.

Great buy
Color: Blue+Red
My dogs kill every toy. They arrived very agressive chewers. These have lasted way longer than most balls have. Great value

If your dog loves tennis balls, you NEED these
Raising any puppy is tough. Raising a German Shepherd puppy has often left me questioning my life choices. So I was ecstatic the day that my 60-lb puppy decided that he loves tennis balls and occupied himself for 2 hours without needing constant intervention. Naturally, my immediate response was to make sure we had a constant supply of large tennis balls for dogs available. Now my puppy loves mischief, but he’s not an aggressive chewer. And I was irritated to discover that every brand and size of tennis ball broke within an hour max of play. By simply playing fetch and batting the ball around with his paws, every single tennis ball split into 2 halves. We needed something better! These squeaky balls are exactly that! They come in a 2-pack. I gave my pup the 1st one a week ago and it’s still going strong! We play fetch in the backyard, he brings it into the doggy pool with him, it rolls around in the dirt and can be rinsed off easily. It’s by far his favorite toy, and he takes it everywhere with him. Finally a squeaky ball that can keep up with my dog! These are the perfect size, texture, bounce, squeak, everything. These are the ONLY squeaky balls I will buy from now on. Five stars for sure!

Durable squeaky ball for chewers
Color: Blue+Red, Color: Blue+Red
These are great! My 54 lb GSP loves them and it’s the only thing she cannot destroy! She’s currently 1 year and we have had the balls for several months. We have this brand and similar ones too. They float, bounce, and squeak. The ridges are good for chewing.
