This aloe species features thick, broad leaves that are a rich green with pronounced, sharp white teeth along the edges, giving it a spiky, sculptural look. As the plant matures, it forms a large rosette that can grow up to 3 feet (90 cm) in diameter, making it one of the larger aloes. In the winter months, Aloe hercules produces tall, branching inflorescences adorned with vibrant orange or red tubular flowers, which attract pollinators like birds and bees. This aloe thrives in well-draining soil and requires plenty of bright, indirect sunlight, making it an excellent addition to both indoor and outdoor succulent gardens. It is drought-tolerant and prefers dry conditions but should be protected from frost, thriving best in USDA hardiness zones 9-11.
