Les habitants de l'île de Rastepappe, dont le célèbre détective Archibald, connaissent un bel été, propice au repos. La première du nouvel opéra de Blaireaussignol est imminente, mais voilà, les costumes sont introuvables… et ce n'est que le début d'une série de mystérieuses disparitions. À l'imprimerie, il manque des boulons ; au restaurant, les ustensiles du chef ; à la bibliothèque, l'indispensable échelle… Même la couronne d'Archiduc s'est volatilisée ! Ç'en est trop pour croire à de simples coïncidences. Mais aucun indice, aucune piste… jusqu'à ce qu'Archibald remarque enfin un détail sortant de l'ordinaire : une île, une toute petite île, est apparue au large de Rastepappe.
Le premier album d’une tétralogie parue à la fin des années 1980, qui connut un grand succès et fut même adaptée en dessin animé ! Entre Babar et Hercule Poirot, un livre plein d'humour à mettre entre toutes les mains.
