Product Story

If you remember our beloved reversible cashmere jackets — soft, double-sided, and a customer favorite — you’ll understand why we wanted to bring them back. But this time, with a better story and a better fabric.

A few years ago, we learned that everyday cashmere had become an environmental problem. To meet global demand, herds in Mongolia had grown so large they were stripping the grasslands bare. We loved cashmere — but not that cost. So we stopped selling it and started looking for something equally soft, beautiful, and sustainable.

That search led us to alpaca — the miracle fiber of the Andes. Softer than cashmere, warmer, and far gentler on the planet. Peru’s alpaca industry is carefully managed and supports generations of skilled artisans. We were intrigued, so we flew down to see it for ourselves.

Our destination was supposed to be Lima… until we discovered at 11 p.m. the night before the show that the actual alpaca convention was 600 miles south in Arequipa. Imagine booking a trip to New York for a show that’s actually in South Carolina.

By dawn, we were booking new flights, trains, and taxis. Somewhere between Lima and Arequipa, Heidi ate something that made her violently ill. She could barely sit up as I got us onto a plane headed deep into the Andes.

We landed in Arequipa — a city that looks like Italy dropped into the mountains, all European architecture and sunlit cathedrals beneath snowcapped peaks. It’s breathtaking. The airport, however, is about the size of a postage stamp.

We were told not to take “gypsy cabs,” but the only one waiting looked straight out of The Royal Tenenbaums. Heidi was stretched out in the back seat, and I was in front making conversation with a driver who clearly thought I was lost.

Twenty minutes later, we arrived — not at a trade show, but what looked suspiciously like a county fairgrounds. People were walking around with badges that said “BREEDER.” For a moment, I thought we’d come to an alpaca 4-H show.

But tucked behind the fairgrounds was a tent for manufacturers — and inside, we found our dream. Immaculate workshops, Italian and German machinery, and Peruvian artisans who had elevated alpaca to an art form.

A year later, the result of that chaotic day is here: the Reversible Alpaca Jacket. Softer than cashmere, reversible in two elegant colors, and responsibly made in Arequipa.

Try it on and you’ll feel it — not just the softness, but the story.

Check out my new blog post if you want to read the full alpaca jacket journey

Big hugs,
Heidi

Works great for sound deadening install!
Size: 3 Pack
I recently put Kilmat in my van I am converting. I thought I wouldn't need to get rollers to install the sound deadening mat in my van but I ordered these anyway. Why not, 3 rollers under $20.00 and I could return them if I didn't like them. Well I ordered this roller set. I was able to put the mat on and smooth it with my hands but these rollers really helped flatten out the sound mat to get better adhesion, especially where I overlapped the seems. The rollers were more necessary than I thought. They are very sturdy and work well. They do not feel cheap and I actually liked them quite a bit. The rollers have smooth function and leave little lines in the mat where I used them. This was very handy as it let me know where I had already used them. It was nice having 3 sizes. The big roller did not fit in some of the curved areas, so I used the smaller rollers. These will work well with sound mat that is thicker than the Kilmat as well. If you are installing sound deadening mat, you should purchase these. I saw other rollers that were more money and didn't have multiple sizes. This was a good purchase. I will try to add a picture to help with visualization purposes soon.

These mat rollers do a terrific job and worth more than the listed price.
Size: 3 Pack
This product is AWESOME!! to be sure. The 3 sizes you will come to appreciate, as I did. They have some 'heft' to them, and the ribbed rollers are far superior to the flat rollers. I just finished installing sound/thermal mats 'under' the rear speaker shelf of my '71 spiffy GTO. Tomorrow, I expect to do under the rear seat, and I am sure happy that I have three different size quality rollers. Buy these, you can't go wrong.

High quality tools
Size: 3 Pack
These are real nice. Pretty heavy and work well. Not some light weight junk tool. I’d definitely recommend these for ….. well I was sound deadening my car, but yes these were worth the money and will last me years if I ever have to get another set.
