Immune Benefits of Beta-Glucans
Beat-glucans are a polysaccharide that have numerous health benefits that include regulating blood sugar and cholesterol, supporting healthy blood pressure and acting as a prebiotic to support digestive tract health.
Most often interest in mushrooms has to do with immune system support. Beta-glucans stimulate the white blood cells to latch onto tumors and viruses and release chemicals to destroy them.
Research shows (1) beta-glucans help the immune system function optimally by:
- Increasing secretory immunoglobulin A (IgA) levels, a protective substance that lines nasal passages, throat, and airways.
- Activating macrophages, monocytes, and neutrophils, specialized white blood cells that actively engulf and destroy bacteria and tumor cells. Macrophages also analyze immune system threats and send chemical messages to other white blood cells to respond.

About the Organic Mushrooms in This Formula
Turkey Tail Mushroom - Provides one of the highest levels of beta-glucan content of all functional mushrooms at ~57% that support the immune system activity. Contains additional polysaccharides like polysaccharide-K (PSK)and polysaccharopeptide (PSP) which are used as adjunct therapies for cancer in some countries.
Reishi Mushroom - At ~56% beta glucan content, the reishi mushroom is important component of a functional mushroom blend. Laboratory studies show that reishi mushrooms also stimulate a type of white blood cell called natural killer cells that target abnormal — including cancerous — cells.
Maitake Mushroom - These mushrooms have been used in Japan for centuries, and they are believed to promote longevity and overall well-being. The Maitake Mushroom contains a certain polysaccharide called D-fraction. Researchers believe that it is this particular beta-glucan that gives this mushroom unique healing powers.
Shiitake Mushroom - Shiitake mushrooms are known to support and potentially boost the immune system due to their polysaccharide content, particularly one called Lentinan. Lentinan is a type of beta-glucan clinically used in the treatment of cancer in both China and Japan.
Lactoferrin - A protein derived from bovine colostrum/milk that has broad-spectrum antimicrobial effects against bacteria, viruses, fungi, and protozoa, while enhancing the body’s natural defenses by stimulating the activity of immune cells.
