John Beresford Fowler CBE (20 June 1906 – 27 October 1977) was an English interior designer.

Early life
Fowler was born in Lingfield, Surrey, where his father was the clerk of the course at Lingfield Park Racecourse. He moved with his family to Bedford Park, London following his father's death in 1915. He was educated Tormore prep school, and at Felsted School. He left school aged 16 in 1923.

Career
He joined the decorating and antiques firm Thornton Smith, where he painted Chinese-style wallpaper (sold as 18th century originals), and learned other paint decoration techniques, such as marbling and graining. He moved to work in the studio of decorator Margaret Kunzer, and started to decorate furniture for Peter Jones. He established his own business on the Kings Road in Chelsea in 1934, and then went into business with Sybil Colefax, founding Colefax & Fowler. His short sightedness made him medically unfit for military service in the Second World War, but he became an air raid warden and hospital orderly. The decorating business went through a slump during the privations of wartime and post-war austerity, and the business was bought by Nancy Tree (then married to Ronald Tree, and later to Claude Lancaster), principally so they would redecorate her house at Haseley Court. Their personalities clashed: Nancy Astor described them as "the most unhappy unmarried couple in England".

He leased the Hunting Lodge at Odiham in Hampshire from the National Trust in 1947, and his simple but elegant decorative scheme made a great impact. As wartime restrictions relaxed, the decorating business prospered, and Fowler was involved in the redecoration of dozens of substantial country houses and town houses, including Radbourne Hall, Daylesford House, Tyninghame House and Grimsthorpe Castle. He collaborated with John Cornforth to write English Decoration in the 18th Century, published in 1976. He considered himself a "haute couture decorator" but aimed for simple or humble elegance.

He also worked on decorative schemes for Buckingham Palace, Holyroodhouse, Chequers, Chevening, Christ Church, Oxford, and the Bank of England.

He was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1973 and retired in 1975 but had been an adviser to the National Trust since the 1950s and continued to provide them with his advice. He worked on at least 30 of the National Trust's properties, including in particular Clandon Park, Sudbury Hall and Erddig.

He died of cancer. He never married. After his death his home at Odiham was leased by interior designer Nicky Haslam.

Just Right!
The material is sports wear - light, breezy and silky to the touch. Pattern/Design came out as expected from the image, no errors and I tend to choose 1 size up so Medium - Large are my go to's. Fit well with spare room to fill. Worth the money.

Well Padded, good zipper compartments
Size: 14 Inch, Style: 1-pack
This is a really basic case but it fits and looks amazingly great. This one fit my 15" laptop without any issues. The padded interior provides a bit of protection. The zipper side pockets are perfect. I use this to visit different campuses and holds just enough for field work. The price is right and compared to the name bags, this is a great bargain for a quality case.

Great no-frills bag. Slim and compact, but still holds plenty.
Size: 17.3 Inch, Style: 1-pack
I needed a case for my new HP Pavilion 17" laptop. I didn't need anything fancy or with all kinds of special features. I didn't need one with a lot of extra storage space beyond what was required for the laptop, its power adapter and cord, and a small mouse. And above all I didn't want one with a large, bulky profile, one that would feel like I was carrying--or rolling--a small suitcase. Turns out this AmazonBasics bag was just what I was looking for. It is indeed slim and compact, and it's lightweight to boot (only weighing about 1 lb.). And even when it's filled to the brim and weighs a good bit more, it STILL looks slim and compact. For its economical price point, it is constructed very well, and thus should be quite durable for light to moderate use. The stitching is very tight and clean, with even strong, "zipper-stay" stitching being included on this inexpensive bag. The zippers themselves (which I tend to be picky about) are of very good quality, and open and close without much effort. The zipper pulls are ample in size and weight, and are very strong and sturdy. In other words, they're NOT cheap. I appreciate the case's simple yet thoughtful design. I especially like the single, large, zippered pocket on the front "face" of the bag, where you can easily and conveniently keep oft-used items such as your phone, keys, power bank, and so forth. Too many laptop bags' outside pockets are unzippered, which I find both impractical and unsafe. The AmazonBasics bag holds my laptop snugly and securely, yet I can still manage to squeeze in extra padding (about 3/8" thick and 1.5" wide) all around its perimeter. I do this because the case provides only the most minimal of padding throughout. (Mind you, I wouldn't have expected sufficiently thick padding on a bargain bag such as this one, but it's worth bringing attention to nonetheless.) The upshot here is that, as well constructed as this case is, it's not designed to protect our laptops from accidental drops onto hard surfaces. There simply isn't enough shock-absorbing padding. But frankly I'm not that worried about accidental drops. Rather, for my most pressing general needs--storing or transporting my laptop and keeping it free from dust, scratches, dents and the like--this AmazonBasics bag really fits the bill. It's easy to carry, and it's easy (and quick) to access your laptop. I'm VERY happy with it, would buy another one without hesitation, and I highly recommend it! Finally, my goal as a reviewer is always to try and help others make better informed decisions about potential Amazon products they may be considering. Toward that end, I hope in some small way that you may have found this helpful. Thanks for reading my review. Best of luck with your shopping!

Love this bag.

I love this bag. It was affordable, and it has plenty of compartments to store my cords and portable drives. It is fun to be able to get work done at coffee shops and theme parks etc...
