"Intense, mouth-filling chardonnay with peach, mango, root ginger, biscuit, cashew nut, oyster-shell and spicy oak flavours. Vibrant acidity adds energy and promotes a lingering finish. Power delivered with considerable finesse" Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, Real Review, Mar 2021
The 2015 estate Chardonnay has a clean Light straw with a Golden hue appearance. On the nose there are notes of tropical fruits, nectarine and yellow fleshed peaches. The palate is refined and delicate after going through 100% malo lactic fermentation offering tropical fruits and hazel nuts with a lingering salty acidity.
At Mountford Estate we create wines of character and quality through a policy of watchful, non-interventionist winemaking. A combination of new and traditional techniques and technology are used. Mountford Estate has transitioned to using native yeasts, low sulphur and like all past vintages these wines continue with a no fining or filtration policy where possible. The winemakers believe that this is the way to gain a true expression of site and vintage.
This Chardonnay comes from the oldest vines on the estate. Planted in 1991 on the Eastern slopes of Waipara Valley, the aged vines have truly tapped into the limestone deposits in the hills of Mountford Estate.
This wine captures the terroir of the Eastern slopes at our special site in the Waipara Valley. Fermented in French oak and left on lees for 10 months Before being put to bottle.
