Niuru Maru is the name in local dialect of the Apulian red berried variety Negramaro, which in the last twenty years has seen a revaluation, either vinified in a monovarietal version, or together with the fellow countryman Primitivo. Compared to its local mate, Negramaro from L'Archetipo winery has a brighter ruby red colour and shows a bouquet as intense but differently faceted, with black cherries and plums in the foreground, followed by spicy, almost Christmassy aroma of cloves. The tannins here are more subtle and sneaky, but they successfully give a boost to the taste with elegance and depth.
