Der Rote Milan ist eine Greifvogelart aus der Familie der Habichtartigen. Bevorzugte Lebensräume sind Agrarlandschaften mit Feldgehölzen, oft auch Parklandschaften und an Offenland grenzende strukturierte Waldränder, seltener Heide- und Moorgebiete, solange Bäume als Niststandorte zur Verfügung stehen. Das Männchen wiegt im Durchschnitt 1,1 kg und das Weibchen 1,4 kg. Die Körperlänge variiert zwischen 60 und 73 cm und die Spannweite erreicht 150 bis 171 cm.
