Es ist zunächst die neunmonatige Inhaftierung des Zürcher Verkaufsingenieurs Hans Bühler in einem iranischen Militärgefängnis im Jahr 1992. Nach der Rückkehr in die Schweiz folgt Bühlers Entlassung durch die Chiffriergeräte-Firma Crypto AG und seine zweite «Gefangenschaft» in der verzweifelten Suche nach den Gründen für die Zerstörung seiner beruflichen Existenz: Unerlaubter Alkoholkonsum gemäss islamischem Recht? Dafür hätten ein paar Peitschenhiebe als Strafe genügen. Bestechung? Damit hatte er nichts zu tun. Kontakte zu Militärpersonen? Das war Teil seiner Verkaufsarbeit.
