Semillon ist eine klassische weiße Rebsorte, die vor allem in Frankreichs Bordeaux-Region tief verwurzelt ist und wesentlich zur Herstellung des berühmten Sauternes und Barsac beiträgt. Sie wird jedoch weltweit angebaut und findet sich in Australien, Südafrika und den USA, wo sie sowohl sortenreine Weine als auch wichtige Bestandteile in Cuvées bildet.
Semillon-Weine sind bekannt für ihr vollmundiges Profil, das sich durch eine markante seidige Textur und moderate Säure auszeichnet.
