Nicht okulre Manifestationen der Krankheit umfassen Wachstumsstrungen, Zahnfehlbildungen

Mikrophthalmie ist eine autosomal rezessive Erkrankung, die durch okuläre und nicht-okuläre Manifestationen gekennzeichnet ist. Bei Portugiesischen Wasserhunden ist die Krankheit durch bilaterale oder unilaterale Mikrophthalmie, Linsenanomalien und mehrere zusätzliche Defekte des vorderen Augenabschnitts (Katarakt, Hornhautdystrophie, Glaukom usw.) gekennzeichnet. Nicht-okuläre Manifestationen der Krankheit umfassen Wachstumsstörungen, Zahnfehlbildungen und hämatologische Anomalien wie Anämie und Thrombozytopenie.

Mutation: DNAJC21-Gen

Gentest: Die Methode, die für den Gentest verwendet wird, ist äußerst genau und ermöglicht eine vollständige Unterscheidung zwischen betroffenen Tieren, Trägern und gesunden Hunden. DNA-Tests können in jedem Alter durchgeführt werden.
